Defensible
Space
Cal Fire (CDF) Has New 100Ft
Defensible Space Guidelines.
Due to warm,
dry spring, local residents are urged to work on fire safety
clearance around their homes while conditions are relatively safe.
Central Calaveras Fire & Rescue reminds property owners that Public
Resources (PRC) Code-4291 requires defensible space around all homes
and out buildings. Clearing the required 100-feet (or to your
property line, whichever is closest) involves three simple steps:
A.) Thin out live vegetation; B.) Prune up your trees; and C.)
Remove dead vegetation.

Our Mission....
Protect and enhance
the well-being and safety of our residents, businesses, customers, and
partners.
We will
accomplish this by...
Delivering
exceptional service and compassionate solutions as a cohesive team with
dedication, vigilance, and pride.
The Central
Calaveras Fire & Rescue Protection District is a “combination” fire
agency established July 1, 1999, staffed by paid firefighters and
volunteer firefighters who have chosen a career in the fire service. In
addition to fighting fires, the firefighters must deal with a wide range
of emergency situations, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents,
hazardous material incidents, civil disturbances and natural disasters
in the communities of Glencoe, Mountain Ranch, Rail Road Flat and Sheep
Ranch located in the “Southern Mines Area” of the Mother Lode Region of
the gold country, in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada with an
elevation ranging from 760 feet to 3626 feet.
To handle
these emergencies effectively requires a great deal of training and
practice. The firefighter will study the science of fire and fire
service hydraulics, rescue, emergency medicine, ventilation, salvage and
overhaul, hose, rope rescue and ladder procedures, and forcible entry.
Firefighters also learn to operate and maintain fire apparatus and
equipment.
To assist
in the Fire Department’s goal of preventing fires, firefighters study
fire origin and cause, conduct facility pre-event planning inspections,
present fire safety programs, and education and even conduct station
tours.
The
position of paid firefighter works a 48 hour shift schedule augmented by
volunteer firefighters daily, weekends and scheduled holidays. The
chance to gain personal satisfaction by helping people in the
communities we serve is a great motivation to serve as member of the
